Colorado has a green light from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to expand Chatfield Reservoir to store more water for the Front Range’s growing population.
The expansion will add about 20,600 acre-feet of water to Chatfield Reservoir, raising water levels by 12 feet, and providing an average of 8,539 acre-feet of water per year for city and industrial use, according to the Corps. One acre-foot of water can meet the needs of about 2.5 households for one year.
