I-70’s choke points have been around so long, experienced drivers can tick them off in rapid succession.
There’s the Twin Tunnels just east of Idaho Springs, where both eastbound and westbound traffic always slows when traffic volume spikes.
And the section between Idaho Springs and the U.S. 40 turnoff to Empire and Winter Park. Also, the westbound two-lane bridge at the bottom of Floyd Hill. There’s the hill from Silverthorne up to the Eisenhower-Johnson tunnels.
