Colorado coal by the numbers

Colorado coal mines’ production was down 19 percent in the first half of 2013 from the first half of 2012, according to state figures. And while problems at some of the state’s biggest coal mines contributed to the drop, no one is too worried yet about a long-term decline. The biggest production drop, about 1 million tons, came from the Elk Creek Mine.
