Some oil and gas companies are kicking up less dust in Weld County these days, piping water to their drilling and hydraulic-fracturing sites rather than trucking it in.
Some of the water pipelines are permanent, underground ones; others are temporary and above-ground. Either way, local officials say the pipes have reduced dust, noise, pollution and safety issues associated with thousands of big semis hauling water down rural country roads to drilling pads.
