Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman on Thursday asked the Colorado Supreme Court to decide whether state officials should halt new permits for oil and gas wells until an independent third party proves that drilling can be done safely.
In doing so, Coffman moved in defiance of a request by Gov. John Hickenlooper’s office that the state not seek the court’s review of a split, 2-1, March 23 decision by the Colorado Court of Appeals, according to a letter Coffman sent to the governor Thursday.
